Like a soulless person she roamed,
Negativity consuming her.
It was wrong she knew
But what was she supposed to do?

The weather was a perfect copy
Of her dreary state.
The clouds were a lifeless grey
Holding back its pouring rain.

The numbers dropped
One by one, day by day,
Signalling the approaching battle
To be fought.

Frustrated at the known
Anxious of the unknown
How was she to fight
With just a heart of glass
And a plastic sword?

Blisters on her feet,
Even hopes of eating
A desired meal were lost
With it already sold out.

Her lunch was a replica
Of her colourless world.
Bland and tasteless,
She lacked the mood to eat.

Without a warning
The skies crashed down on her.
She drowned in her own tears
As if a dam within her opened.

She didn’t even try
To face the current,
She let herself be carried away
Until it brought her to the river bank.

Only then did she hear the birds singing
And see the beautiful blue sky.
Her burdens had been released into the river –
She was now cleansed.
